David Norcross - Bass and Vocals
David was born in May of 1962 in Arlington, Texas. He hasn’t journeyed too far from his birthplace, growing up in Grand Prairie and then moving to Arlington where he lives with his wife, Glynda.
David comes from a musical family. His dad was a singer, songwriter and guitar player who performed with the Sunshiners in Grand Prairie. His brother Jessie is an accomplished musician as well and currently plays alongside his brother in Retro Soundbox.
Surrounded by guitars and other instruments, David learned to play a few chords from his dad, playing mainly Hank Williams songs. On his 10th birthday he received a bass guitar and amp. Now he could live out his dream of replacing Danny on the Partridge Family.
David formed several bands while in High School with no success to speak of. In 1985, he and Jessie joined the oldies band, Route 66. After several years, the band disbanded, and David began working on a new project. Unnamed at the time, the band was set to perform all-original material, David having written several songs over the years.
After putting assembling a self-produced 10-song tape, David decided to move forward with the Lucid Dreamer project and began working on the format of the band. Originally, the band consisted of his best friend Jeff Norrod along with his newfound friends, Troy Adcox and Charlotte Watkins. Additional personnel, Jeff Wade and Joe Roman rounded out the rock band who eventually migrated to a ‘positive rock” philosophy.
By 1991, the band had changed again and consisted of David, Troy and Jeff W playing Christian rock and praise. Though Jeff now lives in Arkansas and our dear Troy has passed away, Lucid Dreamer, is still alive in spirit and David is going through unreleased material for possible future releases.
More information about Lucid Dreamer can be found here.
In 1993, David took a job in Cedar Hill at Vinny’s 50’s Café and was reunited with his old friend from Route 66. Bringing Jessie into the mix, Vinny and The Jets was born. Vinny had a friend from church, Robert Turney and brought him in as a bass player and the band began performing. Though the personnel changes have been plenty through the years, David occasionally still performs when Vinny needs a fill in player.
In 2010, David joined as a guitarist/keyboardist and vocalist with Silver Rail, playing a variety of songs from rock, country and more. The band played around the metroplex until late 2016.
In 2015 David was interested in performing original songs and as Silver Rail disbanded, he formed a new band, The Social Lubricators.
In 2016, David began working on putting together an all-female rock, pop and punk band. After working through many auditions, the band, Crushing Velvet was formed but has since disbanded.
The Social Lubricators released a record in 2017 of all original materials and featured Ryan on vocals and Bill on guitar on the song he co-wrote with David, Dumpy Glory.
In 2017, David joined After Six whenever they need the full band.
During the pandemic, David worked with his old friend Vinny on an acoustic duo playing Beatles music. In July of 2021, John and George Duo made their debut in Vinny’s hometown of Waukegan, IL. They continue to play various venues around North Texas.
More information about John and George Duo can be found here.
David’s influences range from a variety of performers, including The Beatles, Triumph, Rik Emmett, Kiss and even the Partridge Family. “Don’t let that last one fool you,” David adds, “the musicians that were playing on those albums were some of the most accomplished musicians of all time.” If you haven’t seen the documentary about the Wrecking Crew, let me know.
